‘Sgt. Awesome’ Feeds Milk to Kitten in War Zone
Once again, a cat brings comfort to those in harms way. We’re not entirely sure who this solider is, but the name on his camouflage gear indicates that he goes by the moniker “Awesome.” And that’s good enough for us.
Showing incredible tenderness, this mystery solider, he’s apparently so awesome that he finds time to feed a scraggly kitten a bowl of milk while on duty in a war-torn country. Now that’s a real hero. We salute you, Sgt. Awesome.
Nellie Finds Some Unexpected Love
Kittens see a friend in need.
Shelter cats from Animal Friends Niigata (Animal Friends Japan, part of JEARS) in Japan brought love and warmth to a sick rescue dog as she slowly worked her way back to health.
“Nellie had been lying, unable to move, by the side of the road for two days before being taken in to the hokenjo,” said the shelter on Facebook. After the needed bath and treatment, the shelter cats came to Nellie and thought she needed company.
They continued to accompany the sick dog until she was brought back to health. Having the kitties there might just be the thing that helped her through it. Today Nellie is fully recovered and found her forever home according to the shelter.

Rivers: A Special Rescue Story - Buckshot Survivor
While we’re on the subject of “What kind of sick bastard doesn’t like cats?”…
This tiny tabby was found along with her litter mate by Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter. “A concerned citizen heard the shots, found the kittens and brought them to the shelter,” Bozeman Daily Chronicle reported.
Rivers has three broken bones in her legs. “Rivers sported a thick, purple bandage on her right hind leg and a pink cast, decorated with hearts and the message, ‘Get well soon.’”
Though Rivers may no longer have perfect use of one of her injured limbs, she is doing better each day and loving life to the fullest. “With two limbs wrapped, Rivers is not able to maneuver very far, but she is just as spunky as any young kitten, batting at the shiny scissors on the examination table with her left paw and nibbling on other objects of curiosity within her reach,” according to Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
The shelter just recently updated the progress of Rivers on their Facebook page: “Rivers is thriving in her new home. Her rear cast has been removed now that her hind leg is healed and her mobility increases daily – which includes navigating the stairs! What a loving home she is in – she has even become good friends with her (and HOV alumna!) Belle.”
